Even from a young age, Tony Stewart had a passion for speed, and a desire to be successful.
Winning his first championship at the tender age of just eight at the fairgrounds in Columbus, Indiana, the “4-Cycle Rookie Junior Class Championship”.
Winning this championship proved to fuel his desire for life in the fast lane.
By 1983, he won a national level go kart championship. However for Tony, this was not enough.
He went on to win the “World Karting Association Championship” award in 1987 – at the age of 15!
Chances are if it can be driven Tony will win a race driving it.
Tony has won a race in almost everything his has driven and he has won a championship in several types of cars.
Tony is the only driver to win championships in Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown cars (1995), IndyCar Series(1997) and NASCAR (2002,2005).
Not only did Tony adapt to the new types of cars, he adapted quickly.
He won rookie of the year honors in USAC (1991), the Indianapolis 500 (1996) and the Sprint Cup (1999)
In 1998 Tony drove 22 races in the Nationwide Series for Joe Gibbs racing to prepare to go full time in the Cup Series in 1999.
Stewart wins on any size speedway whether its short tracks or Superspeedways, he even wins on the road courses.
Besides winning his two NASCAR championships Tony would say his proudest accomplishments are his two wins at "The Brickyard'
(Indianapolis Motor Speedway)
his home track where he dreamed of winning as a kid.
When Tony does win he sometimes climbs the fence at the start finish line to celebrate with his fans and retrieve the checkered flag.
In 2008 Stewart had the opportunity to form his own race team by partnering with Haas-CNC Racing to form Stewart-Haas Racing.
It was an opportunity to good to pass up, so Tony left Joe Gibbs Racing where he had been his entire NASCAR career and became both owner and driver.
If anyone could do both rolls successfully it is Tony Stewart.
Not only is Stewart a champion on the track he is also a champion off the track. Through the Tony Stewart Foundation he donates to many worthwhile causes.
His biggest charity event is the 'Prelude to the Dream' that he hosts at the track he owns, the Eldora Speedway, a half mile dirt track in Rossburg, Ohio.
